We are committed to minimizing the impact of our business on the environment with technologies and processes that are socially responsible, scientifically based and economically sound. We will continue to build constructive partnerships with the federal administration, the state regulatory commission, organizations that promote environmental protection and most importantly, the community that we serve.
We believe in maintaining community, preserving environment, improving quality of life and protecting physical and human resources. Our environmental commitment links a healthy environment, energy efficiency and public safety. We encourage conservation, recycling and energy efficiency programs that promote clean air and water and reduce landfill waste.
New wind farm begins operation
As a utility committed to making our community a better place to live and work, we recognize our shared responsibility to help achieve a cleaner energy future. One of the ways we’re working to meet this responsibility is through the increased use of clean, renewable wind power.
We’re pleased to report that our power supply mix now includes more wind energy thanks to the addition of a new resource. Early this year, our power supplier, Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI), began receiving 50 megawatts of wind energy from the Top of Iowa II wind farm.
Located near Kensett, Iowa, the Top of Iowa II facility is expected to supply WPPI’s member utilities with enough electricity to power the needs of approximately 16,000 homes each year.
